Part I. Fill in the gaps to make correct Reported Speech sentences.

 

1.    “I travel a lot in my job”

He said that he traveled….a lot in his job.

2.     “Be quiet. The baby’s sleeping.”

She told me was quiet….because the baby…was sleeping.

3.    “We lived in China for 5 years.”

She told me they had been living/had lived…in China for 5 years.

4.    “They’ve always been very kind to me”.

She said they HAD always BEEN…very kind to her.

He said they HAD already EATEN…when he…HAD ARRIVED

He said that he LIKED… song.

7.    “Where is your sister?” she asked me.

She asked me where WAS MY SISTER…

8.    “I don’t speak Italian,” she said.

She said that SHE DIDN'T SPEAK….Italian.

9.    “Say hello to Jim,” they said.

They asked me SAID HELLO…. to Jim.

10. “The film began at seven o’clock,” he said.

He said that the film BEGAN….at seven o'clock.

11.“Don’t play on the grass, boys,” she said.

She told the boys DIDN'T PLAY….on the grass.

12. “Where have you spent your money?” she asked him.

She asked him WHERE he HAD I SPENT MYhis…money.

13. “I never make mistakes,” he said.

He said that HE DIDN'T MAKE…mistakes.

14. “Does she know Robert?” he wanted to know.

He wanted to know IF HE KNEW … Robert.

15. “Don’t try this at home,” the stuntman told the audience.

The stuntman advised the audience DIDIN'T TRY….at home.

16.“Who gave you the laptop?”

Yesterday Jason wanted to know WHO HAD GIVEN ME… the laptop.

17. “Is Tim leaving on Friday?”

Yesterday Robert asked me if Tim WAS LEAVING… on Friday.

18.  “Will it rain tomorrow?”

Yesterday Daniel asked me WOULD IT RAIN THE NEXT… day.

19. “Are the boys reading the book?”

Yesterday Mandy asked me WHETHER THE BOYS WERE READING… the book.

20. “Why didn’t Nick go to New York last summer?”

Yesterday Nancy wanted to know WHY nICK HADN'T GONE… to New York.

 

Part II. Fill in the gaps with say or tell in the correct tense.
